Refund Policy
In short. Try Foldaway free for 14 days before you buy — full functionality, no sign-up, no card. Because that trial is there, we do not, as a rule, refund a licence once it has been purchased. That is not an absolute: we do refund where the law requires it, where a serious defect stops the main features from working, where you were charged twice or incorrectly, and whenever Paddle decides to refund you as Merchant of Record. Section 3 sets this out.
1. Who actually issues the refund
Foldaway licences are sold by Paddle, which acts as our authorised reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle took your payment and issued your receipt, so Paddle is also the party that returns the money. Paddle's Refund Policy and Buyer Terms govern the mechanics of the transaction.
Paddle may refund you at its own discretion, whatever this policy says. Paddle's Buyer Terms and Refund Policy take precedence over this policy in respect of your transaction with Paddle, and we cannot restrict them. So the fact that we do not, as a rule, refund does not stop you from asking Paddle directly. You may approach either of us.
2. Our general position
We do not, as a rule, refund a Foldaway licence once it has been purchased. There are two reasons for this.
- There is a 14-day free trial with full functionality before you pay. It needs no account and no card. You can confirm that Foldaway works the way you want on your own Mac, and only then decide to buy.
- The licence is digital content, and the key is emailed to you immediately after payment. Once it has been supplied it cannot be taken back.
So we do not refund because you changed your mind, did not end up using the app, or bought without checking that your setup is supported. This does not mean we never refund. The next section says when we do.
3. When we do refund
We will refund you in any of the following cases.
- Where the law requires it. If mandatory consumer law where you live — the Japanese Consumer Contract Act (消費者契約法) and the conformity rules of the Civil Code, the EU Digital Content Directive ((EU) 2019/770), the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, or any equivalent — gives you a right to a refund or another remedy, we follow it. Nothing in this policy limits those rights.
- Where a serious defect stops the main features we advertised from working. That is, Foldaway's core functionality does not work on a supported configuration (macOS 15 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel) and we cannot fix it for you within a reasonable time.
- Where you were charged twice, or charged for a plan you did not choose.
- Where Paddle, as Merchant of Record, decides to refund you. As section 1 explains, Paddle's decision takes precedence over this policy.
Once a refund is issued, your licence key is revoked and you must stop using the paid functionality and delete the key from Foldaway's settings.
If we discontinue the Software. Discontinuing Foldaway does not cancel your licence. The version you have installed keeps working exactly as before, with no time limit on use; only the supply of new versions ends. What you bought — the right to go on using the software — stays with you, so we do not refund on account of discontinuation.
None of this limits any remedy you have under mandatory consumer law, including the Japanese Consumer Contract Act (消費者契約法) and EEA and UK conformity rights for digital content, where the goods or content do not conform to the contract.
4. EU, EEA and UK consumers: your right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the UK, you normally have 14 days from the conclusion of the contract to withdraw from it without giving any reason, under the Consumer Rights Directive (Directive 2011/83/EU) and, in the UK, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Digital content is the exception, and it applies here. A Foldaway licence key is delivered to you by email immediately after payment, rather than after a waiting period. At checkout, Paddle asks you to consent to that immediate supply and to acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal once performance has begun. That is the effect of Article 16(m) of the Directive and regulation 37 of the UK Regulations. Once the licence key has been sent to you, the statutory withdrawal right is therefore spent.
If you would rather rely on your statutory right, tell us or Paddle immediately after paying and before the key is sent, and we will treat it as a withdrawal. We do not offer a voluntary refund on top of that statutory right.
Losing the withdrawal right does not cost you your conformity rights. Your rights under the EU Digital Content Directive ((EU) 2019/770) and the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 — to have non-conforming content brought into conformity, to a price reduction, or to terminate — are unaffected. We honour claims under those rights, as the first item of section 3 says.
Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method, and Paddle processes them within 14 days of approval.
5. Japanese consumers
A purchase of a Foldaway licence over the internet is mail-order selling (通信販売) under Japan's Act on Specified Commercial Transactions (特定商取引法). The cooling-off right for door-to-door sales does not apply to mail-order selling. Instead, the seller's own return terms govern, and this section is that term: we do not accept returns, cancellations or refunds for change of mind, and we provide a 14-day free trial with full functionality and no card so that you can decide before paying. The cases in section 3 still apply. Japanese-language details, including the disclosure required by Article 11 of that Act, are on the 特定商取引法に基づく表記 page.
6. Chargebacks
Please contact us or Paddle before asking your bank to reverse a payment. Tell us what happened: if your case falls under section 3, we will refund you. A chargeback costs more to resolve for everyone and takes longer than simply writing to us. Where a chargeback is raised, the associated licence key is revoked.
7. Taxes
Any sales tax, VAT or consumption tax collected at checkout is refunded with the price. Paddle handles this as Merchant of Record; we do not hold those amounts.
8. How to ask
To report a defect, or to ask for a refund under section 3, email support@watrix.jp from the address you purchased with, and include your Paddle order or receipt number if you have it. As section 1 explains, you may instead ask Paddle directly through its buyer portal at paddle.net. We reply within two business days.
If you are exercising the statutory right of withdrawal under section 4, you do not need to use any particular form of words. If you would like one:
"I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the purchase of a Foldaway licence. Ordered on [date], order number [number], name [name], email [email]."
9. Changes
We may update this Refund Policy. The version in force on the date of your purchase is the one that applies to it.
